What is an EEPROM job? Well simply put it’s a process where we have to access the memory chip of the security system on a vehicle in order to make you keys.
Why do only certain vehicles require this? It has to do with early on vehicle security in most cases. With Chrysler they used to give out the password if you would call or stop in. But almost 5+ years ago they decided to not work with the public and they give out security & key codes to NOBODY. It’s for in shop purposes only and want to charge you more than $800 for the job at the dealership. They also built in a security with the PACIFICA systems that if you type the wrong code 3x the unit LOCKS and a EEPROM job is the ONLY way to resolve it outside of the dealership! With later on Chrysler vehicles they made the computer and security modules two way communicable there for not needing EEPROM or replacement all the time. Now with Toyota & Lexus, I think it was accidentally overlooked and they never accounted for if a customer lost their car keys. Other theorists think it was by design so the ECU system would need replaced if all of the original keys were lost making the dealership the only method forcing average lost keys well into $1400 prices before driving again.
EEPROM is not a dealer supported method at all. This is the only method possible outside of the dealership services. If you know the dealer’s prices for your key replacement, this is why you’re looking around for something cheaper.

On Lexus & Toyota vehicles: Check for red blinking light with key symbol near it to determine if your vehicle needs a chipped key. Not all models require a chipped key. This is a chart for when they do.

Vehicles that need EEPROM service can’t always be done on site and may need to be towed to a more suitable location for services. The vehicle will need to be properly and legally registered and insured as it will be parked on a city street when completed. We are not responsible for transportation or towing or their fees, damages during so, damages during storage, or theft while being stored. All vehicles left fore more than 96 hours will impounded by the city of Fort Wayne.
